Added Pension

An extra amount of 1995 Scheme or 2008 Scheme future pension income that you (or your employer) could buy by paying extra contributions (monthly or as a one-off lump sum) – no new contracts as all contributions are now in the 2015 Scheme

Additional Pension

An extra amount of 2015 Scheme future pension income that you (or your employer) can buy by paying extra contributions (monthly or as a one-off lump sum), also known by its initials, AP, read more here

Additional Voluntary Contributions

Outside of the 2015 Scheme, extra contributions that you can choose to pay to increase your future pension income, invested in the stock market (not guaranteed inflation-proof income), also known by its initials, AVCs

Adjusted Income

Adjusted Income is used to work out if, and by how much, your Annual Allowance is reduced (tapered), broadly your total income from all sources plus Pension Input Amount in the tax year Lots more information on our Annual Allowance page

Adult Dependant’s Pension

A pension income paid to an eligible surviving spouse, registered civil partner or nominated qualifying partner after you die

Allocation

Giving up part of your pension (when you apply for it to start being paid) to provide an income for someone else when you die

Annual Allowance

The maximum amount your future pension income can increase each year tax-free, often shortened to its initials “AA”
