NHS Facebook Page – Observations

Last summer we had become so frustrated that NHS workers were struggling to find up-to-date information on pensions that we decided to do something about it. So Laura set up a Facebook group. The intention was to provide a discussion forum, with free guidance on common issues.

What followed took us by surprise. As of today there are just short of 16,000 members and typically around 20 individual queries every day. Laura continues to upload information to help people to help themselves. She also continues to answer questions free of charge.

Over the Easter period we will be preparing a summary of our experiences in running this group. Some of the findings are predictable. Some are not. In many cases, issues cause:

  • Unrest;
  • Misinformation;
  • Reduced morale;
  • Staff leaving service.

The findings will hopefully help NHS trusts improve the support they offer to individuals within the workplace on pensions.
